THE POWERFUL GAMING EXPERIENCE WITH ALIENWARE M14X

The Alienware Laptops are the high ended gaming laptops by Dell that comes in different size categories, like 15 inch, 17 inch etc. The laptop being discussed is M14X Alienware laptop and is in 14 inch category, hence the name. The new laptop is basically same as the previous bulky and large M15X and M17X laptops and is more portable. The laptop also has the powerful Nvidia graphics support for ultimate gaming. The laptop is a bit bulky, not comparable to Sony Vaio Z or MacBook Air, but still is quite portable. The machine is powered by Intel Core i7 laptops, which is also a great enhancement by Dell.

The laptop has almost the same design as its predecessors. The body is brightly coloured and weighs around 6.5 pounds. The maximum height reaches 1.2 inches, so it could not be considered a thin laptop by any means. But the main reason for the launch of this machine is to provide portability to the Alienware laptops, as they are quite big and hard to carry around. The body has two grilles on the sides of the front end, which is for just design, not ventilation, as the case with the previous versions.

The 14-inch screen is a treat. The display size is 1600 x 900 pixel resolution and could be dropped down to 1366 x 768. The gaming experience is considerably good and the Klipsch speakers are good as ever. The laptop is equipped with the new GeForce GT555M, and is perfect for gaming. Games like Unreal Tournament and Street Fighter IV ran on 1400 x 900 pixel resolution, without any noticeable lag.

So, the people who are looking for intense gaming on a portable laptop would like to have this delight in their bags.

The keyboard and the track pad are quite funky as they are backlit. But there is more to them then one would notice. The back lights are configurable i.e. you could change the colours of the keyboard and track pad’s light and you can also control the keyboard light in sections. The keys are quite roomy and are separated from each other, even though they are not in the island design. The reason for the separated keys is that the gamers often use the keys, especially WSAD, so users don’t get confused with them.

The touch pad has a matte finish and is quite responsive, as it should be because it is a gaming laptop. There are two buttons available for the left and right click as well.

The machine is loaded with the Intel core i7 processor, with speeds reaching up to 2.3 GHz. The memory could be expanded to 8 GB and a 750GB hard disk is available. There are quite a few data ports, such as the USB 2.0 and 3.0, SD card reader etc. The optical drive is a DVD burner, but it would have been much appreciated to have a Blu-Ray. There is a video port combo available as well, which includes VGA, HDMI and a Mini Display port. The battery provides a 2 hours 45 minutes video playback, which is quite good for a gaming laptop.

The Alienware M14X, is a well equipped laptop that could be carried in a bag to your business trips or at vacations. The price does looks higher than usual at $2100 for the fully loaded ones and could fall to $1100 if the laptop is downgraded.
